Shortly after World War II, American soldiers stationed in Japan at the Yokosuka U.S. military base ordered embroidery from tailor stores with Oriental patterns and emblems of the units and bases to which they belonged as a memorial to their service, and this is said to be the origin of the "Sukajan".
