A yarn-dyed check shirt that weighs over 15 ounces. The original UES fabric with selvedge is 100% cotton, but has a wool-like volume and deep color. Because the fabric is woven with very thick threads, there are only a limited number of looms available in Japan, and because an old-fashioned shuttle loom is used, the amount that can be produced per year is limited, making this a valuable fabric. The reason for using old-fashioned looms is to weave the warp threads slowly without pulling them too hard in order to bring out the original texture of the thread. This slows down the production speed, but it allows for a soft and bulky fabric.
